Venus 460/2 from 2017 makes a good buy and Truma heater keeps it cosy

Typical tow car: Ford Focus Tdi

Layout: Front dinette with side kitchen, dresser opposite, and end washroom

Pros: lightweight, spacious, oven, shower, blown heating good spec, large end washroom
Cons: not made anymore, flimsy locker internal shelves

Look out for: damp in rear corners, cracking front window, small holes in rear back panel.

Extra equipment Basic touring yet still offering a good spec look out for added BBQ point, exterior electric socket and fitted mover.

It’s hard to believe the Venus 460/2 was an entry level it looks so much more up-market

Jenkinson’s opinion: The Venus has got to be one of the best entry level ranges of the last decade – by 2015 this profile had emerged complete with new interior. Venus was part of the sadly now gone Lunar brand, they had got it bang on with this range and it provided superb value with decent kit and lightweight too. The 2017 model was getting close to the end of the line but luckily the factory at Preston had stepped up production to satisfy this demand for the Venus brand.

The 460/2 was a cracking two berth, offering a brilliant rear end washroom with excellent storage and a decent side kitchen and large side dresser. Night lighting was good and if you look carefully on later Venus tourers, some were made as a dealer special. Excellent upholstery and spec plus a modern interior were other plus points. These tourers are a good choice now on the used market generally.

Kitchen in Venus 460/2 has lots of storage and worktop plus oven and microwave

How to find a good one
Look at dealerships as most seem to arrive on forecourts, others are sold private and if so, do the checks to make sure no expensive repairs will be coming your way. Look out for any window cracking at the front and pin holes in the rear back panel. The other area to look out for is the odd delaminating floor area in heavily used examples of Venus in general.

Brilliant side dresser in the 460/2 – double bed making used slide out sections from the seat base

Do make sure it had its service checks, damp could be a problem in some at the rear of the van. Look for different colour ceiling board, a sign of damp or the van has been damp. Check if a mover is fitted, that it works but also it’s in the sale not added as an extra. The 460/2 as all Venus models have shelves inside the roof lockers these are flimsy – warped ones mean heavy items have been placed on them. Overall though the 460/2 is well worth looking out for.

The shower is lined though pre 2017 they weren’t – end washroom is spacious and practical
